Hello,
I'm researching my family tree in Leon, Guanajuato. I'm trying to find the name of the town that my ancestor, Jose Epifanio Monjaras, was born in. In the attached Baptism record, the town looks like it says Caraeol, but I'm not having any luck finding that town or anything similar. The Baptism was in Leon, so the town must be near. Parents names are Juan Monjaras and Andrea Ramires. See attached image.
Appreciate any help!
Thank you,
Stephanie

Besides the "Caracol" mentioned already, there seems to be a really small settlment in the Northeast part of the León Municipality, behing de Cerro del Gigante:

I hope this is useful in your reasearch.
Best regards,
Church not town
I once was looking for a town that was said to be near a city that left me bewildered until I realized that the city had grown so much that the town was now inside the city.
There are at least two “Caracol” in Guanajuato The difference between the two is that one has “El” in front of it Both of them are now part of cities. One in Villagran Guanajuato and the other in San Miguel Guanajuato.
1) La localidad de El Caracol está situada en el Municipio de Villagrán (en el Estado de Guanajuato) It is on the other side of Irapuato.
2) Caracol, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico
Good luck,
Rick A. Ricci
Caracol
Two locations noted for Guanajuato: Caracol and El Caracol
El Caracol?
To my eyes it looks to be “CaraCol”.
