Hello everyone, I am Ramón E Sánchez Vázquez del Mercado, I am 62 years old and for more than 10 years I have dedicated a lot of time to the genealogy referring to the surname Vázquez del Mercado, my starting point is the so-called "red book ".... an old book resulting from the transcription and compilation of previous books made by my great-grandfather "ALEJANDRO JOSE LADISLAO DE JESUS VAZQUEZ DEL MERCADO MEJIA" (b1841, Sombrerete, Zacatecas, who was governor of AGUASCALIENTES state" in Porfiriato´s periods ) and which in turn has as its starting point his grandfather "NICOLAS JOSE VAZQUEZ DEL MERCADO" (b1720 Zacatecas, Mex.) married to Maria Ygnacia Espinoza de los Monteros, who have been essential for a better understanding of the growth of the family.
Through these years I have tried to link the historical references of the ancestor "Gines Básquez de Mercado" with the current family....
I want to emphasize that I have found that the surname "Vázquez del Mecado" through several centuries has derived as "Vázquez del Mercado", "Mercado", and a large part of those who currently have only "Mercado" as their surname derive from the original surname "Basquez de Mercado".
Currently my interest is to be able to discover the link between the "Básquez de Mercado" family from the time of the conquest with the family settled mainly in Jalisco, Zacatecas, Durango, Aguascalientes and CDMX between the period 1540 to 1700....
I am grateful to this site for the opportunity to advance the investigation of the family relationships mentioned and to be able to collaborate with members who share similar interests.
I look forward to your comments and thank you for being able to share my research.
Warm greetings
I do not use FS for my tree…
I do not use FS for my tree. I use Ancestry. It is public, you can find it under the username 245luigi and most of my sources are attached to the tree for all to see.
I have found more children attributed to the couple, specifically Maria (m. Juan Plascencia Maldonado) and Francesca (m Juan Agundis y Zuniga).
What doubt do you have, his origin of Fresnillo? This is found in his son's marriage record, bottom right. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-K79G-JK?i=78&wc=3JDW-J…
I cannot find his ancestors as Fresnillo records are not available for the time period
My direct paternal line is…
My direct paternal line is Vasquez de Mercado. I am also researching the name. I descend from Juan Vasquez de Mercado who married Ines Rangel de Acuna. They were originally from Fresnillo but the children seemed to have married in Jalisco, the children being born ca 1680's.
I could not find them (or confirm them) in the padrones of Fresnillo but there are other Vasquez de Mercado's and Rangel de Acuna's present there.

Vásques/Vázquez/Básques & Mercado
Hello Ramón, I’m Jorge Minchaca Medina, I was born in Durango which was partially founded by Ginés Vázquez de Mercado known also as Gines Básquez de Mercado as you mentioned. Even if I have several ancestors with similar surnames, I have not found the link to Ginés.
The names and surnames changed according to the person who writes the church or civil records, as well as the language used. In the “Euskera” (Basc) language there is no “V”, so you can hear the same pronunciation whenever you write Basquez or Vasquez. The difference between “s” and “z” can also be forgotten.
My ancestor of 5 generations Pedro Jacinto de Medina López born in 1779 in Aguascalientes married Benita Vásques de Mercado born in 1779 in Aguascalientes. Benita was the daughter of Jossef Fermín Vásques de Mercado born in 1740, Jossef Fermín was the son of Juan Vásques de Mercado born in 1700 in Aguascalientes and as far as I know, Juan was the son of Nicolás Vásques de Mercado born in 1677.
Another ancestor of 5 generations was Joseph Justo López Basques born in 1771 in Unión de San Antonio, Jalisco. He was the son of Maria Isabel Basquez born in 1754 and married Rafaela Vázquez who was born in 1794 in Río de Vázquez, near Unión de San Antonio. Rafaela was the daughter of José María Vázquez.
On my father side my grand-grand-grand father was Gerónimo Longoria Mercado born in 1824 in Sobrerete, Zacatecas and was the son of Maria Ana Mercado.
As you can see, the Vásques/Vázquez/Básques are very common. Maybe this can’t help you in your investigation but I wanted to share it.
Regards
Jorge
Thanks for the information....
Dear Jorge: As you say, the variants in the way of writing the last name depend on several factors, for example; century, region where the record is made, knowledge of the recorder and custom of the people, however all these variants do not make a difference when dealing with the same surname, some other ways of writing surnames (especially compound surnames) is abbreviated or mutilating, in many cases they only write "Mercado". I leave you the ID of Benita V of the M LC8Z-FVY. Also the link to your family tree..
Here you can find the connection with Gines V del M (Conquistador) https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/portrait/LC8Z-FVY In the case of your great-great-grandfather Gerónimo Longoria, the ID is ML1F-G4P (although much research is needed) and his tree https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/portrait/ML1F-G4P, was his wife Francisca Trejo? Thanks for the information, regards
