Hello,
My name is Arlene and I'm a new member to this site. My surname on my father's side is Torres. Both of his parents were from Jalisco. I finally had a break through in November of 2012 when I discovered that my maternal great grandmother's name was really Endoria Ramires and not Marciana Ramires (which is what she went by). Endoria was born in Nov. of 1856 in San Miguel, El Alto, Jalisco. She married my great grandfather, Felipe de Anda Alderete on May 2, 1883. Felipe was born in Aug. of 1856 also in San Miguel, El Alto, Jalisco. After their marriage they moved to Purisima del Rincon, Guanajuato and started their family. Since November of 2012 these are the surnames that I have linked to the maternal side of my grandmother's family:
Ramires(z), Velasques, Martin, Martin del Campo, Ruis de Velasco, Vivanco, Ramires de Hermosillo, Perez Maldonado, Ortega, Perez, Hurtado Mendoza, Mendoza, Moran de Ledesma, Vasques, Arias Maldonado, Estrada, Salcedo, Zamora y Solis, Aceves, Gomez de Espejo, Gomez Flores, Mora Hurtado de Mendoza, Nunez de Bojorquez, Gonzalez de Hermosillo, Hernandez Gamino, Munoz de Aceves, Gonzalez Rubio, Gonzalez Florida, Gonzales de Hermosillo Rodriguez, Munoz, and Rodriguez.
Surnames from my paternal side of my grandmother: de Anda Alderete, Luna, Marques and Gutierrez...haven't started really researching yet.
The paternal side of my father's family hasn't been so easy. My grandfather's name was Santiago Guerra Torres. He was born in July of 1899 in Rancho Nuevo, Jalisco. His father was Gabriel Torres born about 1869 according to Santiago's birth record and his mother was Maria Jacova Guerra born abt. 1867. Both parents were from this general area of Jalisco.
At this time I'm researching many different surnames. General locations of research include but are not limited to Matanzas, Rancho Nuevo, Jalostotitlan, San Juan de los Lagos, San Miguel El Alto, Arandas, Atotonilco El Alto, Ayotlan, Guadalajara, Ayo el Chico and Ocotlan.

If Felipe was born Aug. of 1856 in San Miguel El Alto then his surname is Alderete Anda and not Anda Alderete. The paternal surname goes first and the maternal surname goes last.
The same goes for Santiago, if his father's surname was Torres and his mother's surname was Guerra then his surname was Torres Guerra and not Guerra Torres.
The birth record of Santiago should name his grandparents. Are they not named in it?

Thank you for the naming information. Santiago's grandparents are not listed in the birth record. Just his parents, their ages, where they were a resident of and the witnesses.

My name is Mary Mejia (http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/marymejia) and I am
researching my husband's family. His great-grandparents were Manuel Mejia and
Francisca Rosales from Tepetongo, Zacatecas. Manuel and Francisca were married
2/10/1877 in Tepetongo and had 12 children, all baptised in Tepetongo (Marciala,
Magdaleno, Josef, Gabino, Florentina, Francisca, Adelaida, Alejandra, Cruz,
Heron, Fidel and Maria). They immigrated to the US around 1917 and ended up in
Kansas City, Kansas. Fidel was my husband's grandfather and his grandmother
Maria Ignacia Salazar (also from Zacatecas, but that is all I know so far).
I appreciate the opportunity to expand my knowledge of my son's heritage as I
believe it is important to know from where we come.

Hi Mary, and welcome to NuestrosRanchos. I am still fairly new to the group
and I can assure you, you won't be sorry you joined. I had no knowledge of
genealogy and only got into it because I promised my daughter I would look into
our background and who our ancestors were. I had a hard time finding my mother
but thanks to NuestrosRanchos and Joseph, who not only found her but was kind
enough to send me a good copy of her baptismal---I almost cried tears of joy.
You will get the help you need from this group, they are all great. I have
learned that Genealogy is like going on a treasure hunt and when you find an
ancestors, it's like finding a treasure! Good Luck!

Mary,
Welcome to the group. I am sure that you will find lots of help and
suggestions from the group members.
I did take a look at the information, that you have posted in the group, in
regards to your husband's family Tree. I was able to go from Manuel Mejia
back 7 generations. I have sent a copy of the ancestor report to your
email. There is a lot of information there, and lot of it still needs to
be proven. That means that you need to look up each event, such as birth
records, baptisms, and marriages. The quickest way to look them up is to
use the FamilySearch site, and the records are in Spanish. So have fun,
looking for your family.

Hi Mary,
Welcome to NuestrosRanchos. You'll learn so much from being a member. I didn't know anything about my family because my dad died when I was little but now after being a member for just a couple of months I've added so many ancestors to my tree and learned so much about my family and my heritage. And, everyone is so helpful here. Joining this group is the best thing I've ever done in my life.

Hello my name is Brian Gilbert Gutierrez. I am excited to be a member of Nuestros Ranchos. My Aunt and I have been involved in our familiy's genealogy work for some time. Our roots go from New Mexico to Colotlan, Mexico, and Tlaltenango, Mexico. We are currently as far back as the mid 1600's. I look forward to participating.
