can't find church record for jalisco found on familysearch.org
By jessgallardo | 2:04 PM MST, Thu November 08, 2012
I have found an entry for my research, but am unable to find the image for a birth entry from the mid 1700's: Santa Maria de Los Lagos, Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico
Please help.
I assume what you are saying is that you have found a reference for an extracted church record, but are having trouble finding the original.
The extracted records almost, but not always, give you the film number, for the record. The posted films often, but again not always, start with the film number. This will tell you if you are looking at the right film.
If the posted films do not have the number, then look up the film number in the FHL catalog, This will identify the film by the period covered so you can go to the right group of records at the website.
After than, the records should be in chronological order. That is usually true, but note that auxilliary chapels may have their records separate from the main parish records, often just a group at the end of each month. If the volume of records is in poor condition, the pages may be out of order.
Some of the apparently extracted records are actually from information submitted by individuals. These can be problematic. In some cases I have been able to find the original, in others, I have not.
Baptisms and marriages are sometimes in the same volume, but still usually separated (eg, first part is baptisms, followed by marriages).
In rare cases, there are errors in the extracted data. This complicates the search.
Hello Ronnie,
Do you mean you can't get any results when you do the inquiry or are you just hitting dead ends? If it is lack of inquiry results it may be that you typed in the country: mexico. Try just typing "M" and when you see a list of countries select "Mexico." It has to be capitalized. I'm not sure why, but this works for me.
Good luck,
Deedra Corona
Awhile back I had a problem....it was solved when I put in “Mexico” ...that was the only way I was able to get info. I checked with FamilySearch and was told that this had been giving them problems. It has to be a capital M and the rest lower case....

Don't feel bad...it's been up and down for the past three days. Every time I'm in to start searching, it goes down. Keep trying.....

I don't know if this is related, but "Who Do You Think You Are?" started again. Last season, I often had problems with ancestry.com and familysearch.org during peak computer time so I think it may have something to do with high traffic to those sites. By 2:00 am, glitches were no longer there. I like the show and I like that it may spark interest in one's family history, but I don't like that it strains the websites.

Ronnie,
It's been a hit or a miss for me. At times it finds nothing and several hours later, it will be back up. Just keep trying at different hours.
