Can someone tell me where I might find baptismal records for individuals born in Jalos prior to 1698? I am trying to find a record for Melchor Manuel Peres de Paredes, son of Agustin Perez de Paredes and Catalina Gonzalez de Hermosillo. Thanks.
I think they wont be in Jalostotilan, I think Jalos did not become its own parishuntil around that time you stated. It used to be under the direction of Santa Mariade los Lagos. So you can try there? My best bet since they are altenos they canalmost go anywhere around the all of Los Altos, try checking nearby parishesthat have records earlier!

Are you saying that you have Melchor in your database? I found an IGI entry
but it is a personal one rather than an extraction, and lists "About 1695",
in Jalos.

I have the same entry for Melchor, the IGI, I for one use the IGI for"basic" genealogy but atually viewing records and making finds that no one else has actually is a bit more fun, I'm going to hopefullypublish an article later this year on my new findings. I have baptismalrecords for certain early 1600s people that one has found simplybecause they dont look at much microfilm and only rely on IGI.I bet Melchor would be in the LAgos de Moreno baptismal records, since prior ti 1698 Jalos was under the jurris. of Lagos.

He doesn't show up on the IGI for Lagos. Maybe as I eventually collect
copies of baptismal records for his kids I may get a hint about where to
look. Since a couple of my maternal g'mos lines come from Jalos, I'm sure
your info will eventually be helpful. I don't have the time to devote to
this that I would like, but I do like looking at the film entry itself. I
was once surprised to learn that one of my ancestors had a twin who wasn't
in the IGI database.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I have what I've recently gathered from online sources:
Melchor Manuel Perez de Paredes( born abt 1695, died prior to 6 May,
1760P md Juana Maria Martin del Campo (died 7 Apr, 1764), in Jalos., Jal.,
8 May 1719
Pts.: Agustin Perez de Paredes and Catalina Gonzalez de Hermosillo
Gpts: Alonso Perez and Luisa Paredes
Melchor Gonzalez de Hermosillo and Francisca Renteria Mojica
I descend from Melchor and Maria's son, Nicolas Ysidro Perez>Jose Ignacio
Perez>Juana Neponcena Perez md Jose de la Trinidad Ruiz 5 May, 1829,
Yahualica, my 3ggpts.
Other than other children I found, that is the extent of my info. I
eventually want to locate all the film entries. Do you have more?

Jalos was a parish since the late 1500's. Prior to that they belonged to the Teocaltiche parish but separated. The new parish had seven indian town such as San Juan de los Lagos, Teocaltitan, San Gaspar, Jalos and San Miguel el Alto. This fact comes for the new edition of the Jalos history book by Jose Antonio Gutierrez.
Unfortunately many of the records were destroyed by a fire in the late 1600. Only two great records that have genealogical information is the Cofradia de las Animas which was founded circa 1628 and libro de defunciones which start in the late 1650s. Both of those records survived the fire. Other older records can be found in the Sagrada Mitra in Guadalajara, such as padrones which I have copies of.
Jalostotitlan records prior to 1698
I think they wont be in Jalostotilan, I think Jalos did not become its own parishuntil around that time you stated. It used to be under the direction of Santa Mariade los Lagos. So you can try there? My best bet since they are altenos they canalmost go anywhere around the all of Los Altos, try checking nearby parishesthat have records earlier!

Jalostotitlan records prior to 1698
Are you saying that you have Melchor in your database? I found an IGI entry
but it is a personal one rather than an extraction, and lists "About 1695",
in Jalos.

Jalostotitlan records prior to 1698
I have the same entry for Melchor, the IGI, I for one use the IGI for"basic" genealogy but atually viewing records and making finds that no one else has actually is a bit more fun, I'm going to hopefullypublish an article later this year on my new findings. I have baptismalrecords for certain early 1600s people that one has found simplybecause they dont look at much microfilm and only rely on IGI.I bet Melchor would be in the LAgos de Moreno baptismal records, since prior ti 1698 Jalos was under the jurris. of Lagos.

Jalostotitlan records prior to 1698
He doesn't show up on the IGI for Lagos.

Jalostotitlan records prior to 1698
I have Melchor's genealogy if you need but do not have a baptismal date or record.
I learned as a newbie many years ago that the IGI is not complete and does
not contain all records for each film, only certain extractions, hence why Im going
back and extracting everything myself, it has been fun and have learned so
much, many pieces start coming together.

Jalostotitlan records prior to 1698
I have what I've recently gathered from online sources:

Jalos records prior to 1698
Jalos was a parish since the late 1500's.
Hope this helps.

Jalos records prior to 1698

Jalos records prior to 1698
