This list compares the names given in records (source: microfilm and
certificates) located for my ancestor, Pioquinta Gonzalez Figueroa, and some
of her children. I am needing to verify if the latest record, the baptism
record that is listed first, is indeed her's. I have placed in bold
lettering the names that I think make the necessary connections. I would
appreciate feedback on this that would help me to determine whether or not I
have found her baptism. The family story has been handed down that
Pioquinta Gonzalez Figueroa was born in Spain of "royalty." Therefore, this
record is critical in possibly disclaiming that story, so I want to be as
sure as possible this is her baptism record before I add this to my family
history. I have extracted only the necessary information. In the baptism
record, even though it reads "infanta india," this is not necessarily
accurate, but it does raise further questions. (Every record in the film in
these early years, label the children as one of two things: ynfante/a
yndio/a or ynfante/a lavorio/a.) I also realize the name Gonzalez is so
common and was commonly given to Indian children at baptism, and the "s" and
"z" are used interchangeably, adding to the necessity of verifying each
piece of information I acquire. Thank-you!

Martin Navarro De Gabay/Juan Navarro
Does anyone have any data on the Gabay family,
I am curious if there is a link between Martin Navarro De Gabay married to Petronila De Moctezuma
and Juan Navarro married to María Rodríguez Castaño de Sosa
Thanks, Phyls
Martin Navarro De Gabay/Juan Navarro
Phylis,
For some time I have wondered if there is any connection between these Navarro families given that both Juan Navarro (Nuevo Leon) and Martin Navarro (Aguascalientes) are my direct ancestors. Juan Navarro and Maria Rodriguez had a son named Martin who was born between 1574 and 1582. He married Maria de Rojo Ruelas. Thus, this Martin was too young to be Petronilla's husban. Could it be that Juan had a brother named Martin? The timeline would be a good fit. I have searched for evidence in support to this hypothesis with no success. After conducting searches of passengers to Indies with surname Navarro, I found that the surname was adopted by many unrelated individuals that originated in the Basque region of Navarra, most whom are simply identified as originals from Pamplona. In addition, Martin is a VERY common Basque name. Regardless, I would be extremely interested in such connection of these families.

Martin Navarro De Gabay/Juan Navarro
Juan Navarro(m. Maria Rodriguez) was born abt 1555 in San Martin.
My understanding is that his father was a conquisador with Cortes. San Martin was abandoned during the Chichemeca wars.

A Snip Of Context: Was Accessing Baptismal & Marriage Records
This brings up a good point for us to consider when we post messages. We
need to do what I did below and give a snip of context so anyone that
reads the message in the middle of the discussion will have a "chance"
to understand what the discussion was about. Sorry Rosa I can't quite
remember myself right now. Also notice that I changed the subject of the
email so it will accurately reflect the topic under discussion. When the
subject gets changed as they often do when a discussion goes on for a
little bit it is needful to change the subject line so the search engine
that Arturo built for us will work if we later need to search for this
particular message or group of messages.
Rosa you can go to www.familysearch.org to find out what films you can
order that are for Jalostotitlan and also you can find where your
closest Family History Center is located.

Joseph,
Thanks for the clarification and all that you do for all us researching our
familias:) I wish I had more time in my life to check in with all of you
more often. Every time I read about one of you finding a link for someone
and offering to assist make me beam with hope that someday, I'll find an
answer to my great abuelito Rosario Enriquez. Please let me know if I can
help any of you with San Francisco area pictures or document retrieval.
