The website address is www.Geneall.net. I have used this website for years when researching my Portuguese ancestry.
Once on the main page of Geneall I selected Espanol, by clicking on Base de Dados, on the left hand side of the page, one will find a listing of all the names that appear.
I tried searching for the Gonzalez surname that John mentioned and I came up with hundreds of individuals with Gonzalez surnames.

I am absolutely NOT posting an ad. I was merely posting an inquiry to my fellow genealogists as to the validity of this site.
As I mentioned before, I stumbled across it by accident and thought it was too good to be true. It seemed extremely easy (too easy), yet beneficial. Being the skeptic that I am, I was hoping to gain some feedback from anyone that might have used the site before offering any of my own research.

Hi Pat:
I went to the Geneanet.org just to check it out. I tried the tab labeled
"origin of surname" I did a search for "Gonzalez"and it returned: "no
returns for your search".
I was surprised since Gonzalez is one the most popular Spanish surnames. I
was not trying to find out if there were any Gonzalez's in their database.
I was hoping to find the ORIGIN of the name, which I have already found in
more than one website.
I also visited the www.Genall.net page and you are right, there are a lot of
Gonzalez listed, but I couldn't find "Gonzalez de Hermosillo" This is in a
database that has 9990 surnames! Could be my eyesight.
Thank you Pat, I might go back to that site and check out some of its other
features.

To Linda - Geneanet. org
The website that I mentioned (www.geneall.net) in my previous posting was another source site that may be helpful to those individuals that have linked their ancestry to other countries.
I personally have not used Geneanet.org, but will check it out. Thank you for sharing...
