the nuestrosranchos.org site continues because of the hard work and
dedication of its volunteers: Kitty Cortez, Alicia Carrillo, John
Gonzalez, and Enrique Legaspi. It sounds like there will be others who
are joining in to do the work as well soon.
We all know the great work that Arturo has done with the website and a
continued thanks go to him for his efforts. Muchisimas Arturo!
I just wanted to publicly thanks John Gonzalez and Enrique Legaspi for
their help in doing Translation work for me when I needed something to
be said "correctly." You all have seen that my written Spanish is
terrible and these two gentlemen have stepped up to help me greatly and
I'm counting on them to help in the future. Thank you John and thank you
Enrique.
I wanted to point out two special volunteers whose efforts are going
unnoticed by the members of the group but without their help the burden
of the workload would have destroyed my will to continue on in the group
as one of the Moderators:
1) Alicia Carrillo: Our Spam Master. She is the one that allows or
disallows Spam from getting to the group. Have you noticed how the
nuestrosranchos.org site gets no spam? Well it is sent to a special
folder where on a daily basis Alicia goes in and deletes all the spam
and hunts for the misc. message that a new member will send before they
reply to those three confirmation emails that we must all reply to
before being allowed to send messages to the lists. Anyway this job in
this day and age is very needed and time consuming. I was stressing
about it and Alicia came to the rescue and has helped greatly in
assuring that no legitimate messages get tossed out with the tons of
spam the three lists receive daily. Mucha Gracias Alicia.
2) Kitty Cortez: Our Potential New Members Screener. Whenever potential
new members apply for a new account they get sent a message saying they
need to do their own research and send in their representative genealogy
to be admitted as members of the group. After about 15 days of no
response Kitty sends them an email reminding the potential new members
that in order for their membership account to be activated they need to
send in their genealogies. Then after about 30 days Kitty sends a last
message saying that if they don't reply ASAP (deadline given) their
application for membership will be deleted. I can't believe how many new
potential members are applying every week thanks to Arturo's site design
which allows the search engines to find us. This job got really out of
hand and I was straining under the load of doing it until Kitty
volunteered to help. Thank you thank you thank you, Kitty!
I can't express how much I appreciate the efforts of Alicia, Kitty,
John, and Enrique. Having said that I don't want them to think that I'm
just assuming they will do this job forever (it would be okay with me if
they wanted to do it forever). Arturo has already made a call for new
volunteers to help with some projects he has lined up and I want other
members to keep in mind that I might need help from you in possibly
assisting Alicia and Kitty. Now they are Trojans and have not asked for
any help and I won't be interfering with their efforts but it is
possible that sometime in the future they might need a "break" or
assistance. So I want all of you to think of getting on my list of
people that I can potentially call upon if I need an "on-call" volunteer.
thanks again for everyone's interest, participation and contribution to
the group.

Volunteers
Dear Everyone:
A big thank you for what you do! Now I would like to volunteer, but I do not know where you might use me. I have little tech experience. I know my way around the computer and I am willing to learn. I know Excel very well and love spreadsheets. Until I retired, I did documentation for international shipping, so quite a bit of detail work and I type well. I speak little Spanish, so I am unable to translate. Joseph, do you have somewhere you could use me?
Maureen
Volunteers
things are very busy here for the next few days. I'm going to find a
home for you but let me get back to you later.
thanks for you willingness to help.
joseph
ps: maybe Arturo will find a way to use your volunteer services before I
but there are things that need to get done. thanks

The Function of the nuestrosranchos.org Group Continues Because.
Joseph,
Thanks for the accolades, but what I do is very little compared to all the work you and Arturo must do. I wish I were better equipped to do more but for now I will keep plugging along as the mistress of Spam, just a few minutes a day.
Take care,
Alicia

Thank You nuestrosranchos.org and my trip to Nochistlan
I second Alicia assertion below. While I was in Nochistlan this past weekend I was telling my cousins about "nuestros ranchos". All were amazed and pleased at the effort and interest in our roots and the organized manner in which information is shared and helpful in the mission of the group.
I went to Nochistlan to celebrate the "Papaqui", an amazing ancient religious feast which for my family has become the reason to re-unite, re-connect and celebrate our roots.
During the day I was lucky enough to leaf through the original church records - all the way back to 1661, which the LDS has preserved, and available to us on the internet. Happily, I was able to confirm all the dates I wanted to look up against the original documents.
Thanks so much to the founders of this group which ignites pride in our ancestors and sparks our curiosity to learn where we come from.

Thanks Enrique,
when time permits please tell us more about the "Papaqui." You can put
it right here on the research@nuestrosranchos.org list. also tell us
about the statement below about the 1661 records available on the
internet. Are you talking about the records on films that the LDS owns
(Registros parroquiales, 1627-1959) or are you talking about something else?
tell us more and if you have pictures of the festival please upload a
few to the Albums in the appropriate specific album.
thanks,

Thank You nuestrosranchos.org and my trip to Nochistlan
Joseph and fellow rancheros!
the 1661 records i referenced are the same that are found in www.familysearch.org - IGI database.
As i looked at the original source document, the feeling that overcame me was a rush of electric excitment. To be able to hold the 400 year old parish records book was a privilige.
As far as pictures are concerned, i will upload a bunch of papaqui pics. is there a file size limit i should be concerned about, Joseph?
I will also post a description and historical background to the 'papaqui' soon.

I can understand. those books were the ones being written into possibly
as you family was right there with the scribe giving them the
information. I'm not sure that is the way they did that but if they did
record it while your family was there it was like touching your family.
Way way cool.

if you have a way to optimize pictures for the web you might consider
this, but truthfully I would just pick a "small" bunch and not do too
many. Give us a good feel for the Papaqui but not too much. I would
think between 5-10 should do a good job, but if you need to upload more
go to it.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] The Function of the nuestrosranchos.org Group Continues Because. . .
the nuestrosranchos.org site continues because of the hard work and
dedication of its volunteers: Kitty Cortez, Alicia Carrillo, John
Now they are Trojans and have not asked for
any help and I won't be interfering with their efforts but it is
possible that sometime in the future they might need a "break" or
assistance. So I want all of you to think of getting on my list of
people that I can potentially call upon if I need an "on-call" volunteer.
thanks again for everyone's interest, participation and contribution to
the group.
