Juanita,
Sorry to delay with this reply. The Rancho San Mateo to which I refer is in the Valparaiso District. The City of Valparaiso lies 90 KM south-west of Fresnillo (it is due-west of the city of Zacatecas, but there is no direct highway between Zacatecas and Valparaiso). I believe the RANCHO SAN MATEO is about 15-18 KM north-east of Valparaiso (my best estimate from the map I am looking at; it is an older map - 10 yrs+ ).
I hope this is helpful. In what district is your San Matias?

Thank you for replying. In genealogy, any kind of reply is appreciated, especially if you are communicating with people with the same interest. you know a lot about distances from one place to another. i know nothing, other than that is where the Delgados originated. There are hundreds and hundreds of JUAN and JOSES and MANUELS on FAMILYSEARCH, and ZACATECAS is the last in abc, so I have had to go as fast as I can, just looking for San
Matias, Pinos, zacatecas. I did get lucky and found a sibling and another date, which is a real accomplishment.
When I get home to Brownsille I will go the LDS library in Harlingen, 25 miles away and hope to start digging there. They have a great deal of information and one can also get into Ancestry.Com free.
I also understand that several states, including Zacatecas were in the NUEVA GALICIA
proper, so that records might even be in other parts of Mexico.
I just communicated with the director of collections at UTPA and found that one can just go in there and research, so that is another source.
Thanks for talking to me.

The Special Collections Librarian at UTPA is George Gause. If you go
there tell him that you know Joseph Puentes from the
http://NuestraFamiliaUnida.com podcast project and that I said hello. I
know him from communication on the internet and he seems pretty
knowledgeable and dedicated to his job. He can help you get in touch
with others in the area that have information that might be related to
your research. If you find other useful sources of information please
pass them onto the group.
thanks,
joseph

I sure will say hello to George for you. I am going to make it a priority, well, I will have to knock a few down, to get down to Edinburg. I got my BA from there, long before it became part of UT, so I will be happy to see my old AM.And I surely will relay any pertinent information to the group.

San Mateo, Zacatecas - for Juanita Delgado
I must be on a cc list.
San Matias in Pinos is a church. I have been there and it is the church in which has baptismal and death records prior to civic records. I just did not want San Mateo Rancho to be confused with this church. For example my ggfather Ciriaco Aguilar Medina, while I have a photocopy of his birth does not pull-up on IGI index.
Also for the group's information I looked at the LDS links. I have ordered 15 films of which 10 are for Jalisco and Zacatecas in relation to Teocaltiche and Pinos respectively. They are at the LDS center in Redlands, CA. I am finding the extractions on the LDS film to be of increasingly little value to me. The latest films are so old and more difficult to read especially as I have aged. I first started extractions when I was a mere lass of 39 or 40. Much of the information extracted from Pinos I paid the notario of the church who also served as the town cronista. He must be deceased by now he was about 80 plus in 1996. He wrote three books of which I have only one left the other I gave to a cousin, one took off with a friend.
The driver I hired to take from the Capital Zacatecas to Pinos, was surprised to find a new road, up to U S Standards with all road services. He took us up the old highway and returned via the new. San Luis Potosi City is a better launching point for southerly cities of Zacatecas, such as Pinos and Jerez. Jerez has a replica of the Ford Theater in which Lincoln was assisinated, built as a tribute of the migrant laborers of that era.
Also, from Aquascalientes is the shortest route to Los Altos de Jalisco with a modern paved road, that our driver was not aware of until we contracted him to take us there.

HI, Sylvia,
How fortunate for you to have gone to those places. Thanks for the information on San Matias, PINOS, ZAC. I only knew what I read on these people, and I assumed it was a place.
I really don't know if I will ever be able to get to the bottom of these names, but I shouldn;t give up.
Thanks, Juanita Galvan Delgado
