Hi,
my name is Veronica Lopez. My parents and most of my grandparents come from
JALPA, ZACATECAS. I understand from reading previous posts that the records
for that town are very skimpy.
My maternal grandfather's name was Juvenal VIRAMONTES. He had at least 3
siblings (Benjamin, Ramiro, Enriqueta) but from what I understand, they were
raised by an aunt and uncle. According to my mother's birth certificate, my
grandfather's father's name was Benjamin Viramontes and his mother's name
was Antonia RENTERIA.
My paternal grandmother's name was Concepcion MAGALLANES and she was the
daughter of Concepcion Magallanes (father) and Simona BECERRA. Simona's
father (my gg grandfather) was Lino BECERRA.
My paternal grandfather's name was Prudenciano LOPEZ, son of Anastacio Lopez
and Clara GONZALEZ.
Most of what I know is from my father's memory and most of what he remembers
(surprisingly well) are names of many cousins and aunts and uncles.
I'm not sure where to start, so I'd appreciate any help.
Veronica
My Introduction- Veronica Lopez Viramontes
Hi Veronica,
What is your fathers name. I came across a Juvenal Viramontes that is the Ancestry Border Crossings. He was born in Jal. Zac, but it also states that his father's name is also Juvenal and that is mothers name is Carmen Mendez.

One my maternal grandfather Jorge Carlos from Huejucar, had a sister named Sixta Carlos who married into the Viramontes family. May be there's a connection?

Those names don't sound familiar. But we are probably related, as are all Viramontes probably. I need to do some research.
Viramontes
Please remember to keep in mind that not everyone from the same place with the same surname is related. Some are Espanol and others were Indio, Mulato or Mestizo who were given or took the surnames. Also don't discard surnames spelled differently. In my own records I had to make the choice of spelling it Miramontes or Viramontes since the records for the same families contained both. I ended up putting all Miramontes/ Viramontes in Jerez Zacatecas as Miramontes with the resource record giving the other spelling, I try to include resource records on all entries.

Juvenal Viramontes
That's interesting. That sounds like it could be my uncle. I have an uncle who is named Juvenal Viramontes, like my maternal grandfather. My maternal grandmother's name was Carmen Valles, but her half-siblings were all Mendez. I think her mother remarried a Mendez. My uncle is still alive and living in Mexico, though not in Jalpa, zacatecas.

Very cool! I looked in Ancestry border crossings and found original documents for my uncle as well my grandmother and my mother. It seems that my grandmother would bring her kids across the border from Juarez in the 1940s. One says my mother is 7 years old. Another has a picture of all of them. I didn't really learn anything new but it's still pretty neat.
juvenal viramontes
Yes Veronica, and there is a card for the ones who crossed with her.
I don't know if you got those names,
Carmen crossed in 1941
Elvira crossed twice as well
and there is an Estela
Yvonne
juvenal viramontes
yes, Estela is my mother. She got very sentimental when I told her I had
found these.

I don't think you should go into the Huanusco films yet... Because eventhough Los Soyates was like 5 mins from as Im told from Jalpa, it really borders it. Most Soyates people did go to Tabasco. -Dániel

My Introduction- Veronica Lopez Viramontes
Did Juevenal Viramontes die in California? I have some info on this Juvenal not sure if it's him though? The records for Jalpa aren't SkimpY! THERE ALL IN TABASCO! As I know Jalpa wasn't always Jalpa, it used to be part of Huanusco and Tabasco. But later the GOv't made Jalpa its own municipio. There wasnt a church at the TIME! SO they had to build one. pre-that and even still records are in Tabasco or Huanusco.

Yes, that's my grandfather! I did find this record earlier, but thanks. It helps to know his date of birth.

Veronica:
Welcome to the group. I am sure you will find plenty of people here willing to help.
As far as Jalpa records, you are correct in that they are skimpy. There appears to have been loss of most of the records probably in a war or a fire. If you do a search on the site, there are members who have been able to research genealogy and microhistory nevertheless.
I think given the approximate dates of the ancestors for whom you have details, you should be able to find some records. Jalpa does not appear to be indexed (given the late years and paucity of the records). So that means you will basically have to look through the films.
Your great-grandparents appear to have been born around 1880 and probably married around 1900 so their baptisms might not be in the church records, but your grandparents likely are. Many baptism records post-1820 or so and nearly all civil registry records include grandparents' names so your grandparents' baptisms/birth registry will list your great-grandparents and great-great grandparents' names.
Also your great grandparents' marriage records are likely in the informacion matrimonial films from Jalpa and those will likewise list your great-great-grandparents' names. In fact, because the informacion matrimonial goes back to 1864, you should be able to find even your great-great-grandparents' marriages from which you can get their parents' names. Then there is a 36 year gap which you may or may not be able to overcome but you can cross that bridge when you get to it... seems like you have plenty to work with for now.

Lopez and Viramontes in Jalpa Zacatecas
Hello! My parents from Huanusco a city next to Jalpa, we've done some, little research on the Viramontes family! They came from Los Soyates, it's a rancho now but used to be part of our Hacienda before the Revolution. I hopw something I have will help you mines mostly from 1850-1890's period. Also note that people from Jalpa also went to Tabasco, ZAcatecas to baptise their children or the chapel in Ciudad Huanusco or even Capillas of La Palma or our's which is called LA Luz. The viramontes originally came from Calvillo before going to Jalpa. I guess there's many possibilities where you ancestors could have been baptized, Tabasco was the most likely because it was the Cathedral, the Main Parish in that area. Ive looked through many Tabasco films and found many Viramontes. I only got the Viramontes that were related to me. Later I found they were all related! GOSH, I should have got all of them. I knew it. It's possible we might be related. Since almost everyone in Calvillo, Tabasco and Huanusco and Jalpa intermarried for hundreds of years, too the point where everyone was related today. In my case the Hacienda de Nuestra Señora de la Lúz del Camino (Note "Camino" is my last name! )It's really funny to me.) Was started by 7 or so spanish families I only descend from 6. These families intermarried for A LONG TIME, sometimes within their own own family like Camino married a Camino and a Vasquez married a Camino
then the first Camino's son married the second Vasquez/camino couple's daughter, and so on. We had a "rulebook" on how the children were to marry. It's complicated, I dont really want to get into on this topic since it's totally off topic. Maybe another time. -Dániel Méndez del Camino
