Hello All,
In my searching I have had trouble finding records of marriages and baptisms
in Pinos, Zac (AKA Sierra de Pinos) and surrounding ranches and haciendas.
Does anyone know where these records may be found? I've heard rumors that
they may actually exist as part of church records somewhere in Jalisco.
Please Help!

You should probably search Guadalajara for these records since it was the
capital of Nueva Galicia during this time. And since Zacatecas was also part
of Nueva Galicia.

Rodolfo,
I have seen some baptism and marriage records of people from Sierra de Pinos mixed in among the records of Aguascalientes, Ags. and those of Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. I suggest you try these locations as well as Pinos, Zacatecas.

That's what I'm talking about. The group working together to help those
in need. This kind of input is invaluable as Rodolfo might never have
found this particular source of records. Thanks David.

Sierra de Pinos Records 1650 - 1730
Hi Juanita,
This area is of very large interest to me. My paternal lineage ends here.
I have been able to search films from this area in the LDS but they are
incomplete. Many family lineages are simply missing. For example, I find
many marriage records showing that people were born in Sierra de Pinos.
However, There are no baptism records to show this.
I first thought that it was only my lineage. So, I expanded to searching
the lineages of many families in Sierra de Pinos. All came out the same.
Records of marriages and baptisms start showing up around 1730.
I've searched in Jalisco and at times have found a record or so. It's just
perplexing. I know they are out there somewhere.
It also seems to happen at the time that some priests were asked (commanded)
to leave Mexico for standing up for Indian rights. Perhaps the records were
taken with them to Spain or send other local missions, or diocies.
Thanks to everyone for the help and comments. I'm going to widen my search
and see what turns up.

Rodolfo,
Within the Nuestros Ranchos site once you've logged in there is a section called films. It's on the upper right hand side. Click on films, you will see a list on the left side with the names of the states in Mexico, click on Zacatecas, scroll down the list of the names of the municipalities and you will see Pinos. It shows 33 rolls of film for Pinos. Click on Pinos and it will show description of film, the year range, film #, batch # and type of index. Having identifed which film you need click on the index button for that description/year and happy searching.
Buena Suerte,
Alicia de San Jose, Calif
