Great geographical resource
Hello all
I have located a great geagraphical resource that has allowed me to locate the brithplaces of both grandparents in Aguascalientes. They were both small places, and I never thought I could find them until I located this resource. Just click on the link and go to the site. THere you can search by country, and once in the country listing you can search by place name. I clicked on Ojo de Agua de Rosales and it located it for me on a satellite map and listed the GPS locations and elevations, etc. I also clicked on La Hacienda in Aguascalientes and got similar results. It's a great resource. The link is http://www.indexmundi.com/.

John,
You say "there are no films from the years I am looking for" but that you were going to get them from the LDS Library. I am curious---where have you been viewing films? I thought only the LDS Family History Center libraries and some libraries in El Paso, TX had microfilms from Mexico.

Maps
To John G. and John R.,
Thanks, guys, for the information on the various map sites. I found the Maps of Mexico link on the Nuestros Ranchos site works best for me. So does the MSN Maps (the old one with just maps, not the new one with the satellite photos).

de la Rosa Sandoval - Fresnillo, Zacatecas-
I’m searching my father’s line to Zacatecas, the name of my great grandmother was Ines de la Rosa Sandoval, all I know is that she was born in Fresnillo, Zacatecas around 1887-1889 (on the birth record of my grandfather said she was 36 by the time he was born -1925-)
Morcinique, Aguascalientes
Emilie Garcia:
En la Geografía e Historia de Aguascalientes aparece Morcinique, que
probablemente es una deformación de una palabra Nahuatl. En antiguos
escritos del S. XVII, aparece como vocablo con diversas deformaciones

More on Place Names
My recent research into my husband's ancestry has taken me farther afield from Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco where I found his grandfather, great-grandfather ---- back to his gggg-grandfather. Now I am in unfamiliar territory.

Los O
Alice,
I will call you cousin for I have Onate ancestry also. My Onate heritage dates back to the colonization of Zacatecas and Oaxaca of New Mexico.
You found the marriage of Agustina Santelices and Luis Onate. That is a good begining. I am willing to help you research the Onates. So far I have been lucky in my own research. I am kind of curious if you go back to Juan or Cristobal Onate as I do. I will need the date of Agustina and Luis' marriage and the place and the church. I also need to know where and when the other children of the marriage were born. Did you read the documents in their entriety?

Seriously Considering a PolicyChange/Seriamente en vista de un cambio policial
John, I know exactly how you feel. I've recently started my genealogy research and hit nothing but brick walls! For whatever reason--political or family squabbles, it appears my mother: an intelligent, professional woman from a once prominent family (Onate), was misinformed as to where she was born! I thought I had hit the jackpot when I received the FHC microfilm for Villa Garcia, Zac. for the years before and after her birth, and she's not there! Neither are her two brothers. I've checked the town's 1930's census--no Onate's whatsoever. This family, like many others, lost their fortunes and family records, if any, in the revolution. Now I've ordered an Aguascalientes El Sagrario (the church where my ggrandfather is entombed) microfilm that covers 300 years. I wonder how long it's going to take to get through that one, working only a couple hours a week (the evening operating hours of my FHC)? I haven't contributed much to the site, not for lack of effort, but lack o

A Place Name in Aguascalientes
I wonder if anyone can help me with a place name in Aguascalientes.
I have a baptism record here for my husband's ggggg-grandfather, baptized in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes in 1748, but he was born in a place that looks like "Marinique". I don't find that place in the Diccionario Geografico, but when I Googled it, I came up with a "Marinique Resort" in Aguascalientes. However, when I entered the website, I couldn't find it listed. (It is a travel website).

Oñate's from Villa Garcia
Joseph, The film I searched was Villa Garcia Vault Intl Film 2053580 which includes nacimentos 1914-1917, and didn't find any Onates in those years. Yes, she had two brothers, but no Onates or Santelices (in case the mother's maiden name was used)showed on that film. We don't know her brother's names; upon my grandparents separation, the oldest son was taken to live with the Onates, and the other died a young man. There are also no Onates in the 1930 census for Villa Garcia, et al. Thanks for your suggestions. ABB

Seriouly Considering a Policy Change

Most of us don't have a clue as to what it takes to be a moderator. If you are overwhelmed by the work, we don't blame you for wanting to cut down on the work, and you have to do what you have to do.
