"Abuelos incognitos"?

Profile picture for user CindyF

I recently ran across a church baptismal record on familysearch.org that stated "abuelos incognitos". This doesn't seem to me that the grandparents were unknown but for some reason are unlisted.
Has anyone run across this before? Why would the grandparents not be named? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

"Abuelos incognitos"?

You have to remember that the child's mother was usually not present at the
baptism. She was observing "La Quarentena" For 40 days after the birth of
the child she was confined to her home for bed rest, not allowed to leave
the house or do any housework. This is probably the only time in her life
that she was cared for by others, her parents, siblings, in-laws or
husband.

The Padrinos or Godparents would be present at the baptism and maybe the
father. The Godparents may not have known the names of all the
grandparents, therefore Incognito, or unknown.

"Abuelos incognitos"?

Some records have the granparents some dont when they dont have them
recorded they are unknown or incognito.

Some form based baptism dont have the granparents recorded for some reason
and some do.

Abuelos incógnitos

Hola Cindy:

Saludos

Marcelina
