Hello! Over the last year I have been searching for ancestors from my many lines that go into the 1700's... I recently found an ancestor with the surname 'Oviedo' (written "Obiedo" in the IGI many times over; However, I will write it with a 'v')... I've been looking around, but there doesn't seem to be many 'Oviedo' lines in other researchers surname lists... Has anyone heard of this surname, or possibly stumbled upon it in your family research? It's odd to me that it has been in the area for a long time, as many others have, yet it isn't absolutely everywhere!
My last known ancestor (as of yet!) with this surname was Francisco Xavier De Oviedo, who was married to Maria Rosalia De Campos (most likely in the 1760s) in Teúl de González Ortega, Zacatecas. Their daughter, Maria Eusebia De Oviedo married Joaquin De Robles (parents: Juan Maria De Robles & Maria Josefa Gutierres) and had, among other children, Jose Ciriaco Robles Oviedo (b. 17 Jun 1809 in Teúl de González Ortega).
Jose Ciriaco in turn married Desideria Munos and had Maria de la Cruz Robles (and other children mostly circa 1830s)... which brings me down to a more "touchable" generation (Still about 150 years away, haha!): This all comes through my paternal grandmother's paternal grandmother, Nicolaza Vasquez y Robles (Maria de la Cruz's daughter) who married Ramon Correa y Arellano. All of their children (including my grandmother's father, Leopoldo Correa y Vasquez, b.1898) were born at Rancho Los Robles, which I believe is in the outskirts of the town of Huitzila in Teúl de González Ortega (where my grandmother María de Jesús Correa Uribe was born circa 1925 - But I still cannot find her birth record!).
I apologize for the information overload and many run-on sentences! I know my main question is about my Oviedo ancestors, but I thought I'd kill a couple birds with one stone. Maybe someone will see something that catches their eye... Thank You!

Oviedo surname in Teúl de González Ortega, Zac. (And links to Ca
I have Oviedo in my files and by the way, there is a rancho de Robles in the
district of Jerez Zacatecas Mexico too. My records are posted on Rootsweb.com.
My file name is named Mexico then go to index or put the name Oviedo to see if
you recognize anyone.. I do not have the names you mentions in my files though.
I'm afraid my Oviedo records only go back to abt 1825 or so.

Oviedo surname in Teúl de González Ortega
Interesting, thank you for the tip... I'll have to do some more research as to which Rancho Los Robles it was. I went to rootsweb, and I believe I saw the entries you were talking about... it was a little hard to find for me (I'm not too familiar with the site). Hopefully one day, we can link our Oviedo ancestry, I know we also have more surnames in common! (Cortes, Banuelos, Castaneda, Correa, Bracamontes, Gutierrez). Again, thanks =]
