Amelia, I have the civil records from Jalpa from 1887 - 1895. I am almost
done with them. Where do you live? Perhaps instead of returning them, if you
live close by, LDS will allow me to forward them to a LDS center near you.
For some reason, from 1891 and forward, for the most part, it lists grandparents
names but from 1860 to 1890 it does not. Or, let me know what year you are
looking for and I'll try to find it and forward you a copy.
Mercedes.

I'm almost 100% certain that the LDS won't allow transferring of films
like this but what is the worst that can happen so go ahead and ask. It
could be that they might make an exception, who knows.
Arturo gave some great paths to follow in finding the names of your
grandparents. I'd agree that finding the full names of your grandparents
is your immediate goal because I'm almost positive that your grandfather
was not only a Jose Macias but probably a Jose _____ Macias and your
grandmother a Maria _____ Tostado. If you get their full names then you
might be able to find some of your fathers older siblings baptism
records on that one film that ends in 1919. Yes you have some home work
to do right in the Jalpa records before you expand to other areas, but
yes the other areas will be sources to pursue in time.

Meche,
When you say you are almost done with the Jalpa civil records from 1887-1895, does this mean you have copied all the files onto a compact disc?

Meche & Amelia,
I'm also interested in researching the Jalpa records. The last names that I'm working with are Silva, Duran, Chavez & Sanchez. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the tips Arturo. I really appreciate it as I am new to doing
research in Mexico. What is FHL? I have not seen that reference.

You are in for a bit of a rocky ride because it appears that the baptism
documents from Jalpa for the relevant period (1860-1880) are not filmed by
FHL. I don't know if they were destroyed or simply not filmed. In any
case, you will have to look somewhere else.
>
> The first place to start is to find out your grandmother's last name.
The birth certificate or baptism record of your father/mother should list
this and if it is a Mexican birth certificate or baptism record, it should
also list the grandparents' names in which case you would have your
great-grandparents' names.

death records. If your mother/father immigrated from Mexico, there should
be a border crossing record with his/her parents' names and date and place
of birth.

should list Jose Macias' and ??? Tostado's parents' names.

Macias in Jalpa
Hi Ruben, no I am not that sophisticated. I looked through the micro fiche
film manually. From 1891, for the most part, the paternal and maternal
grandparents are recorded but prior to that you only have parents, and witnesses. I
should have started with the church records first but I didn't. As I said, I am
almost done with those years and will be returning them soon, however, if you
have a specific person and know what year they were born, I will more than
happy to see if I can find it.

Hello J.Guadalupe Jaime Chavez
Well, as my surname indicates, I am a Chavez and also a Sanchez and a Duran.
What part of Jalpa are your relatives from? My relatives, as far as I know,
are from El Ojo de Agua, Jabonera and La Pitahaya and maybe from a rancho
called El Aguacate.

Lupe,
I think you belong to the Vicente Chavez clan. Vicente Chavez and Daniel
Chavez (my great grandfather), I believe where first cousins, have not confirmed
this yet but almost certain. Anyway, if you indeed are from the descendants
of Vicente Chavez, then I will tell you that I did not find any records of him
until late 1895's. I found records of my great grandfather Daniel Chavez in
Jalpa since 1880.
There is a connection of between these Chavez and a rancho called El
Aguacate, which is somewhere in a remote area in of Jalpa because a man by the name
of Serafin Chavez in Jalpa told me this last year and I also confirmed in the
records I have reviewed.
Let me know if I am correct and I will share more information.
Later,
Mercedes

Lupe,
Actually I have that information, but currently I am remodeling my house and
don't have that information handy. In my research I ran across a birth record
of one of his children in late 1897 -1903 and made a copy of it. It has his
parents and his wife's parents names that is how I realized he was not brother
to Daniel Chavez but most likely his first cousin. I made a copy of it
because further in my research if they are indeed first cousins then I have too
leads to go by. Also, I believe Vicente Chavez Sanchez was also related to my
great-grandmother Emiteria Sanchez Flores. I go to the family research center on
Thursdays. Next week, I will look it up again and send you the info.
If you are serious about doing geneology then we can work together on this
and eliminate double and perhaps triple work becuase our lineage crosses with-in
the fourth or fifth generation. It won't be an easy task because many
records are missing from Jalpa.
Last year when I went to Jalpa, I met Pedro Chavez' second wife Dona Lupe who
now lives at El Ojo de Agua.
Later,
Mercedes

Mercedes,
Espero y no te haya confundido!

Hola Lupe,
Ya tengo como un ano (sorry I can't get the squigley line over the n) y a
Mercedes
