I have met and read persons Jewish Ashkenazim(sp?) that went to South America in many locations before, during, and after WW II assimilated into their new countries, those I know kept their faith, but it is highly conceivable if in concentration camps they kept their huge secret. I out different have read about different detention camps, I am no expert but Germany I believe was the only tattoo of your description. it was mostly their families that helped them escape or relocate, The Nazi's were helped by the Catholic Church to relocate to South America. You may want to try Holocaust Survivor web sites to see if you find similar stories.

Thank you for the advice. I was told that my grandfather (Salvador Quintero
Del Rio) was born in the year 1900 in Tuxpan Jalisco. I am still trying to
find out the exact date of his birth and the names of his parents. I know
that at some point he married my grandmother in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and
stayed there for the rest of his life. I am not sure if I believe he was
born in Mexico at all to be honest, mostly because of the tattoos he and his
mother carried on their arms. They never spoke of them and hid them, so my
father does not even know what the numbers are, or how many there were.
>From what I understand it was some sort of branding and I don't know much of
anything yet but that to me seemed as if they were in some sort of camp, I
don't think that camps like that existed in Mexico but I could be wrong.
His and her features were very European, according to my mother. I read
some where that there are many Jews in Mexico, especially in Nuevo Leon and
Jalisco, that I did not know and makes wonder if they may have been
imigrants? I don't know if that kind of record would exist or where to even
look for such a thing. I will post more information when I find it. Any
guidance on where to look/search is greatly appreciated. I am planning a
visit to a Latter Day Saints Family Center, even though nothing came up in
their online search.

Salvador Quintero Del Rio
They could have been Sephardic Spanish Jews.? It is strongly believed and evidence indicates that the founders of Monterrey NL were of Jewish origin.
Others that were put in concentrations camps were Romani (Gypsies) and Turks I believe!? I think they were given numbers as well.

Salvador Quintero Del Rio
So far this is what I know:
In 1900 Salvador Quintero Del Rio was born in Jalisco (sepculated due to the tattoos on his arm).
In 1934 my Father was born in Monterrey, NL (first born)
I can not even guesstimate the time Salavador might have married my grandmother (Paula Gamez, born in Coahuila, don't know date yet) because of stories I have heard of her having several miscarriages and the fact that Paula was a widow when she married Salvador, but I am planning an interrogation soon to see when they were married and where. He and his mother were very light skinned.
I speculate considering the tattoos on Salvadors and his mothers arm, that he and his mother (and possibly father, who is never spoken of) might have been immigrants. He did not have an accent when speaking spanish, at least no one noticed or mentioned it, which makes me believe one of two things. If he was an immigrant, he arrived at a very early age and/or he came from country whose language is similar enough to Spanish that he and his family caught on quick, such as Spain, Italy etc...

For a quick and easy answer....I would recommend a DNA test.
Such as the study being done by National Geographic...go to their site, then click on to The Genographic Project.
Lots of Luck....

I agree with Helyn. For me it easier, to find clues if you know what it is you are looking for if the family doesn't know or are not willing to talk. For me it was a shape of a scar that had significant meaning. That lead to a secret knight order and then on to conversos which interacted on both sides of the fence, so to speak. There is a magnificent story there, I am sure. Good hunting. mari
