Does anyone have a family line that taps into this one? I am afraid there is not mich info, which is why I came to this site. I hope to find others who have relatives in common and that we can share information. I am not even sure this is the place to post this, but here goes! This is my addition to the database:
My name is John David Robles, and I am the son of J. (for Jose) Jacinto Robles (b. 08/16/1912, Aguascalientes, Ags) and Jane Elizabeth Byles Robles (b. 05/18/1917, Casmalia, CA).
Regarding the boys and girls names, some were named Jose or Maria before their common name, but they were not known by those names, just by their ‘first’ names. The two boys born in Mexico were named Jose and this was followed by the names they were known by to the family – same for the girls, they were all named ‘Maria’ followed by their given name).
My grandparents were Nieves Robles (b. 08/05/1884, Ojo de Agua de Rosales, Ags.) and Panfila Martinez (b.06/01/1889, Hacienda de Los Campos, Ags.).
Nieves Robles father was Marcial Nieves or Marcial Nieves Robles. His mother is unknown. No dates are available for his birth, marriage or death.
Panfila Martinez father was Esteban Martinez, no dates available, and her mother was Juanita, no maiden name known. She left Esteban (or maybe he died 0- I understand he was a very mean indigenous man and tried to drown my grandmother in a washtub once – so Juanita may have left him). Juanita came to the United States before my grandparents came, and she had married a man named Arizmendi, All her children carried the Arizmendi name.
My grandparents came here with their three surviving children during the Mexican Revolution, crossing into the United States on June 7, 1914. My grandfather worked in mines, I don’t know what kind - and they worked their way up gradually, staying in Torreon, Guanajuato for some time. My dad told me that they had to ride on top of train cars because so many people were trying to get out of Mexico. When they arn out of money, they would stop and work for a while, then continue on.
My grandparents had at least two children who were born and died in Mexico, before they came. They were Ma. Mauricia Robles, born September 22, 1905 and Je. Antonio Robles, born June 13, 1910. I have their original birth registrations, all of which are register stamped by the Juzgado del Estado Civil, Aguascalientes. They each have boletin numbers too. The wording on my dad’s certificate is ‘Queda registrada en esta Oficina el nacimiento de
There are several siblings living in the United States, mostly in Santa Paula, California, where the family settled in 1914. There are family members, nieces and nephews of Nieves Robles, living in Puebla, Puebla, but I have no knowledge of their whereabouts and no names except for one, ‘Julia’, and no knowledge of her surname.
This is as much as I have been able to glean from family sources regarding the history of the Robles family of Aguascalientes before immigration into the United States.

If you know the date that your grandparents crossed you can probably
find their border crossing records which will have their birthdates,
birthplaces and other valuable information. Do you know where they
crossed the border? In addition, their social security records will
have their parents' names.
Is this one of your relatives?
NIEVES ROBLES 01 Nov 1909 Apr 1984

>From what sources have you compiled this information? Have you
searched the IGI and VRI on familysearch.org to try to find your
grandparents or great-grandparents?
You should post this very detailed and informative message as your
representative genealogy in a file folder to make it easy for members
to locate the information later on.
Thanks for sharing.
Nieves Martinez Robles Family of Aguascalientes
Hi Arturo
As far as I know the Nieves Robles you mentioned is not a relative but on the other hand the name is not that common...
I think they crossed at El Paso, Tx. I will look up the social security info, I believe Ihave both their numbers.
Re the sources, it is from death certificates and my grandfathers own writings - I have a sheet on which he listed all the family birthdays, the date the crossed the border, etc. The great grandparents' names came from family members. Unfortunately this family didn't care too much about genealogy until I came along, and now the older siblings, including my dad, are gone but I will be talking to younger ones.
Thank you for your assistance and suggestions, I appreciate it!

John:
Your father's own baptism certificate will likely list his grandparents. If you know what parrish in Aguascalientes he was baptized in, you can probably get the film for that parrish through the Family History Center and then you would have four of your great-granparents' names documented.
Also, do you know what present-day municipality Ojo de Agua de Rosales and Hacienda de los Campos are in? I looked in Cubas' Diccionario Geogafico and only found an "Ojo de Agua" (with no Rosales) in Aguascalientes in the partido of Calvillo... but it may now be a different municipality.
Also, the IGI shows a number of children born around the time of your grandfather with the parents listed as Marcial Robles and Panfila Munoz. Strange coincidence? Perhaps a thread worth following. I can't seem to tell what film the entries are coming from, however:

Nieves Robles
This is an old posting, and I haven't been here in a while, but I found through diligent search in IGI the name 'Marcial Robles Ojeda', born in San Jose, Calvillo, Ags. This is thrilling to me because my great grandfather's name was Marcial, but I didn't know where he came from. My grandfather Nieves, however, was born in Ojo de Agua de Rosales, and Ojo de Agua is listed as also being in the partido of Calvillo, so this is very likely my great grandfather! He was born in 1839, and my grandfather was born in 1884, so Marcial would have been 45 when Nieves was born, which is entirely likely. I am leaning toward this being my great grandfather, from the year, the location and the name. As a bonus, it lists his parents names, Juan de Robles and Ynocencia Ojeda!! Yay!
