Hi, I had a question...Is it possible for Mexican couples such as in the 1800's, to have gotten married as early as 10 and 13 yrs old? If so, I think I've finally stumbled onto something...
As you know, I have been trying to research my great grandfather Felix Villagrana and related Villagran/Villagrana ancestors from Zacatecas, Mexico. I think I may have found the people I was looking for! So far, everything I've found with this family has matched my suspicions and clues I had from family...

Is it also possible for couples as young and 10-13 yrs old to have given
birth to a child as well as gotten married? I think I read somewhere that
this has happened to children just as young or even younger!

Ages at marriage
Dear Alexis:
I have found in my Alviso line a girl 12 years old married in 1825.
Anna Maria Salome Albizo Gonzs. b. 11/1/1803 San Miguel El Alto (Indian)
m. 6/9/1825 Nuestra Senora De La Asuncion Camilo Renteria (Spanish)
children:Margarita Renteria Alviso b. 2/22/1826 San Miguel El Alto Rancho ??? (Mestiza)
I have not ordered her baptismal certificate yet, but Anna Maria Salome is the child of Ignacio Alviso and Juana Maria Gonzalez. She was married in June, would have turned 13 in November and had her first child in February, so she was 13 and four months old.
We have had this discussion before on Nuestros and while some may be "same name" different age errors, in other cases marriages at young ages were not all that uncommon.

This doesn't add up. 1825 subtract 1803 and she would be 22 years old.

Ages at Marriage
Dear Esther and Everyone:
Sorry, this was the wrong one. I was doing this quickly and did not check the dates, in my mind I thought that Salome was the young one. I have the wrong girl. Now, I cannot find the one that was 12 years old. For some reason now I am sensing deja vu. Did I make this mistake before?
I would have to do much research, but my thought is that Juana Maria Gonzales was the young bride. She is the mother of Anna Maria Salome. Her age at marriage was not listed, but she was married in 1798. Yet, I do not have any of the documentation in my file as to her birth and it has been a long time since I have worked on this line.
I apologize again, but I am unable to find the girl in my research, who was 12 years old. So sorry and thanks Esther for catching my mistake.

I found a few girls at this young age. The record may say 14 but going back to baptismal records shows they were 13.
