then. In the meantime, class=548525504-04032006>I have been informed that the Salt Lake Plaza

1. Salt
Lake Plaza Best Western Hotel changed their price to $82.00 plus tax for a
room for two persons. (Previously they had quoted $80.00 plus tax for a
room for up to 4 persons.) Their website is: href="http://www.plaza-hotel.com">www.plaza-hotel.com and their toll free
number is: 1-800-366-3684. You have to mention "Ranchos Genealogy Group"
to get the discounted price since there are a few rooms reserved for us.
There is NO continental breakfast but they have a nice restaurant that serves a
buffet as well as good menu selections. Since October is a very busy time
for them I was only able to hold a small block of rooms from October 8th through
October 15th. You can choose to stay ANY number of days between Oct
8th - 15th.

Howard Johnson Express Inn offered us a rate of $35.00 plus tax (total $39.32)
for a single queen bed room and a rate of $49.00 plus tax (total $55.05) for a
room with two double beds for 1 to 4 persons. Go to "Google" and type in
"Howard Johnson Express Salt Lake City" to see their facility as well as
comments made by other guests who have stayed there. Their toll free
number is: 1-800-541-7639. Mention my name (Josie Trevino-Trevino)
and "Ranchos Genealogy Group" for the special rate. They offer a FREE
continental breakfast and they are about two blocks from the Library.
There is a free trolley that passes nearby and takes you to the Library if you
do not want to walk. This hotel is able to provide rooms for us for any
number of days you might need......provided reservations are made EARLY.

Mickey and I have
stayed at both hotels in the past and like them equally well. The
convenience of the Best Western Plaza Inn is that it is located right next door
to the Library. Of course, you pay a little more for this
convenience. The convenience of the Howard Johnson Express Inn is that you
can have your FREE continental breakfast, (coffee, juice, bagels, cold cereal,
etc) in your room and then either walk to the library or ride the free
trolley.

Please let me
know if you are interested in going, the number of persons attending, the
dates you will attend, etc. Mickey and I are planning to arrive there
Sunday, Oct 8th and leave the following Sunday, Oct. 15th. The Library is
closed on Sundays so we use this as our travel day. :-)

other and exchange information. Any suggestions
are welcome!

Arturo,
I hope you don't mind me asking, but your message grabbed my attention
by your comment about a recent DNA test.
Have you checked Gary Felix's "Genealogy of Mexico - DNA Project"?
And if so, are the Garzas listed there any of your exact matches?

Victor Villarreal

struggling with your health for some time now and, believe me, we are all
praying for you!
Texas in that it is free! :-) (Or it always has been!)
They have seminars throughout the day and it is all very interesting! It
is an opportunity to meet a lot of really nice people and make new
contacts. Since it is held in Utah a lot of the attendees are from that
area and are very helpful. I met people that "took me under their
wing" and try to help me! There are a lot of Hispanics who live there and
their roots are from Mexico, especially from the interior of Mexico. Lunch
is on your own. It is a very relaxed atmosphere but very
educational. This year I understand it is all being held within the
Library area so there is less walking to other areas for seminars.
The area itself is very large and in the past it required walking a bit;
however, I was told it would be in the Library building so that sounds like more
time learning and less time walking! :-) I will post the
itinerary as soon as I receive it from my contact, one of the persons in charge
of the conference this year.
only brother tested last fall for my paternal lineage, I also had my maternal
uncle tested and am waiting to receive those results any day. On my
paternal lineage I have a lot of ties to Marcos Alonso Garza. My maternal
lineage, so far, indicates a possibility of an ancestor that was from San
Fernando, Tamaulipas named Maria Dolores Gonzalez (parents were Leonardo
Gonzalez and Dionicia Aguilar) but I have nothing concrete on that yet. I
know for certain that this ancestor was born in Tamaulipas and that it was
either in San Fernando or Matamoros.......the tombstone says "San Fernando" but
the records I have so far indicate "Matamoros" so that makes this puzzle
interesting!
an aid to those who might be interested. I have no connection to the
hotels or the library. I am not profiting in any way from any of
this. It is only to make it easy for those who might be interested in
attending and I encourage them to do so. Anyone who has an interest in
genealogy is invited to Salt Lake City anytime but the Hispanic Conference is an
excellent way to get your feet wet. You do NOT have to be a member of
the Ranchos Genealogy group to attend and anyone is welcome. At the
moment, there are PLENTY of rooms available at the Howard Johnson Express Inn
but at the Best Western Plaza Inn the rooms are limited to only those few that
they have set aside for me for the group for the particular days in October that
we want to attend the Conference.
back on your feet really soon! Please give some thought to attending
in October if you can! You are in my prayers!

I find no connection.
done with the surgery in Aprl and go through the recovery, I hope to continue my
research for my Dad's ancestors, perhaps taking a trip to San Fernando.
conferences in Texas and Utah, is there much difference between the two? I
know the Mormom's library being available during the week is a great plus, but
just comparing the conferences.....what are the differences?

Hello Josie,
Pardon my intrusion in your conversation, but as you will recall in
one of our previous emails I have an important Treviño line which most
surely is related to yours, and when I read that you had your
brother's YDNA tested I couldn't resist the curiosity and ask if you
have the results listed somewhere?

Victor

website. My brother's name is Julian Mike Trevino but my name and/or
e-mail address is listed as the contact person since my brother has no interest
in genealogy. I am the one doing it all! :-) I would
love to share anything I have with you that I may have.....let me know when you
check out the website, ok?
