Dear fellow genealogists (amateur or professional). My name is Bernardo Menchaca from Monterrey (now living in Monclova, Coahuila) and am researching my Romo ancestors. I’m relatively new to the Nuestros Ranchos community and hadn’t troubled you with requests until I had something to offer (or so I think).
Let me give you first some background information on what I know, them something of what I infer and have some doubts with, and lastly what I ask of you.
I. WHAT I KNOW:
I.1 INFORMACIÓN MATRIMONIAL OF RAFAEL FEMATE AND JUANA MARÍA LÓPEZ
Dated 3/Sept/1801, Ojocaliente, Zacatecas
His parents were Ygnacio Femate and Ma. Antonia Velasco
He was 35 years old and was born in Rincón de Romos
She was 27 years old and was born in El Venado
Her parents were Gerónimo López and María Ylaria Zapata
He had lived for 16 years in the city of Zacatecas
After that, and for the last three years he was a resident of the
Ojocaliente community in the Posts (puestos) of Asulaque?, Blanca and Vajío
He was a widower (en segundas nupcias) of Joaquina de Salas (who was buried
in Zacatecas)
I.2 BAPTISMAL INFORMATION FOR LEONARDO ROMO LOPEZ
Dated 10/Nov/1802, Salinas, San Luis Potosí
Was born in Charquito Colorado ¿?
His parents were José Rafael Romo and Juana María López
His paternal grandparents were (in error) José Romo and María Manuela
His maternal grandparents were Gerónimo López and María Ylaria Sapata (the
same parents as above in the Información Matrimonial of Rafael Femate and
Juana María López)
I.3 BURIAL INFORMATION FOR JUANA MARÍA LÓPEZ
Dated 14/Jan/1803, Salinas, San Luis Potosí
She was the wife of Rafael Romo de Vivar
She was originally from Ojocaliente
I.4 INFORMACIÓN MATRIMONIAL FOR RAFAEL ROMO AND MARÍA URBANA LIRA
Dated 9/Apr/1803, Salinas, San Lus Potosí
He was 32 years old (changed his age) and was from Rincón de Romos
Had been raised in La Veta (doesn’t mention Zacatecas) and was a resident
of Ramos and La Palma Pegada
His parents were Ygnacio Romo and Antonia Velasco
I.5 BAPTISMAL INFORMATION FOR THREE CHILDREN OF RAFAEL ROMO AND MARÍA URBANA
LIRA
Two mention the paternal grandfather as Ygnacio Romo and one as Antonio
Romo (could really be Ygnacio Antonio)
One mentions the maternal grandmother as María Antonia Velasco, one as
Antonia Belasquez and the other as Manuela Belasco
I.6 OTHER INFORMATION
They spent some time in Saltillo, Coahuila were they baptized one or
probably two daughters, ca. 1812
By 1816 they were residents of San Buenaventura, Coahuila were they had at
least 5 more children
II. WHAT I INFER, SUPPOSE AND HAVE DOUBTS WITH:
II.1 Rafael Femate and Rafael Romo are one and the same person, changing his
last name for the one of his paternal grandmother (see below)
II.2 I haven’t been able to find his baptismal registry
II.3 I haven’t found the marriage record for Ygnacio Femat and María Antonia
Velasco
II.4 From pedigree information in familysearch.org I have that a boy baptized on
12/July/1731 in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes was given the name Ygnacio
Antonio Eugenio Femat and his parents were Antonio Fermín Phemate and
Mónica Vibar. The Información Matrimonial for Fermín Antonio Femat and
Mónica Romo de Vivar (dated 17/Oct/1715 in Aguascalientes) states that his
parents were Fermín Antonio Femat and Bárbara González Aguirre and her
parents were Capitán Nicolás Romo de Vivar (deceased) and María Martínez de
Villalobos (according to his signed petition) or María de Villalobos
(according to her statement)
It could be a case of homonymy but my guess is that this is the Ygnacio
Femat I’m looking for, although I can’t be sure. There were apparently very
few Femat’s at the time.
III. WHAT I ASK OF YOU
III.1 HELP!!!!
III.2 Seriously now, if you have information on Rafael Femate’s baptism or
previous marriages or on the marriage of Ygnacio Femat and Antonia Velasco
I would be very thankful if you could share it with me
Thank you in advance for your help.

Salvador Romo de Vivar and Isabel Femat
Hi Bernardo
I just figured out that two Femat sibliings married two Romo siblings:
Antonio Fermin Femat and Monica Romo de Vivar
Isabel Femat and Salvador Romo de Vivar.
Antonio and Isabel are the children of Fermin Antonio Femat and Barbara Gonzales Aguirre.
Monica and Salvador are the children of Nicolas Romo de Vivar and Maria Villalobos.
You provided the info on Monica RV and Antonio Femat.
The info on Isabel and Salvador is in an Info Matr. from Asientos 1716:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-D8S7-XFT?i=209&wc=M6QX…
GS film #1410796 image 210
I came across it by chance while browsing through the images.
I did a search here in NR for Salvador Romo and Isabel Femat, and I found nothing, therefore I am posting it now, as another example of siblings marrying siblings. It really complicates trying to draw a family tree!
Do you have any info on Fermin Antonio Femat or Barbara Gonzales Aguirre?
Regards
Denise
Femat and Romo
Hello Denise,
You're right, a Romo sibling of Monica Lorenza married a sibling of Antonio Femat.
Check out this node:
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/es/node/22923
Some time ago I was able to look at a will using the link mentioned in this node, I think it was of María de Villalobos, widow of Nicolás Romo de Vivar. She stated her children and whom they were married to. Two Femats were mentioned. I couldn't download the will and didn't transcribe it at the time, thinking I would do it later.
So far I haven't had any luck locating info on Fermin Antonio Femat or his wife Barbara González.
Regards,
BMF
González de Aguirre
Hi Bernardo and Denise,
The reason why you cannot locate additional information on the Femat or González de Aguirre is because they were not originally from Asientos. Like many families in the area the idea of opportunity came by, in this case, mining. The couple were originally from Irapuato, Guanajuato.
Fermin Antonio de Femat and Bárbara González de Aguirre y Bravo Manrique de Lara baptized at least two children in Irapuato:
1) Isabel baptized on 4 Nov 1690 - Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Irapuato, when the family migrated north to the Real y Minas de Ibarra (Asientos) she would later marry Salvador Romo de Vivar y Villalobos on 17 May 1716.
2) Antonio baptized on 6 Feb 1692 - Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Irapuato
3) Fermin Antonio who married Mónica Lorenza Romo de Vivar y Villalobos on 17 Oct 1715 in Asientos. I have not located his baptismal record, but then again, have not finished reviewing all the Irapuato records.
I am not sure where Fermin Antonio de Femat, padre was from, the Femat name does not seem to be common in the region, he could have been a peninsular. As far as Bárbara González de Aguirre, belonged to a distinguished family in Irapuato. Bárbara was baptized on 15 Jan 1665 in Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Irapuato, española, daughter of D. Pedro González de Aguirre and Da. María Manrique de Lara y Bravo de Lagunas who married in Santa Fe de Guanajuato on 6 Sep 1651. Da. María Manrique de Lara was the daughter of D. García Bravo de Lagunas and Da. Catalina Manrique de Lara, my 10th great grandparents.
Daniel Méndez de Torres y Camino
Gonzáles de Aguirre
Wow Daniel, this is very interesting!
Thank you for providing the info...I have had a hypothesis that the Aguilas of Asientos originated in Guanajuato (via Fresnillo). Found a family in Apaseo, Guanajuato, which has potential.
Regarding mining in the 1700's, the person I have been researching - Diego Xavier de el Aguila - had a job (tres cargas de magistral) in Bolanos, a mining town, while resident in Asientos and before that, haciendo de guajucar (huejucar?) Tabasco (according to info mat).
If you have time, could you please provide the links to Isabel's, Antonio's, and Barbara's baptisms (images)? I like to see the padrinos.
Regards
Denise
Links to Baptisms
Based on the dates indicated by Daniel, I took a look at film number 632730, it is a bit problematic to navigate, it seems to go backwards at some point.
Anyway, here is a link to Isabel's baptism:

Hi Bernardo
Great work!
I have been trying to read the names of the padrinos. Is Barbolas padrino (baptism) the same name as her grandfather (seen in the marriage doc)?
is the name Brabo (Bravo?)
Regards
Denise
Record
I read Garci Bravo, his daughter was also madrina. My best guess it boils down to the grandfather and an aunt acting as padrinos.
Femat
Thank you very much Daniel, you've made my day with this very interesting information.
Thank you for sharing!
Saludos from Monclova, Mexico.
Bernardo Menchaca
Pedro González de Aguirre
I read Pedro was from Burgos, son of Juan González de Aguirre and Casilda Veles?
There are no church records for Burgos in familysearch, maybe there is something in Pasajeros de Indias.

Femat and Romo
Hi Bernardo
Thanks for the link!
I will have to try to see a will...on previous occassions I have had technicals issues with the website discussed at that node.
Regarding the Femat history, Daniel has kindly brought us one step further! Very interesting info!
Regards
Denise
Femat
I'll try looking for the will. Will need to re-install some software and see if it works.
I think we have progressed alot since we have become members of Nuestrosranchos, specially with our very generous comrades sharing info and some hard work on your part, and some on my part.

Children of Ignacio Antonio Femat and Antonia Victoria Velasco
Here I´m putting in one place the links to the baptismal information of the children of Ignacio Antonio Femat and his wife Antonia Victoria Velasco. Most of them are indexed in familysearch.org, some with errors in the last names (as read by the indexing volunteers). Some of the links have been previously submitted by fellow Nuestrosranchos.com members.
I’m missing at least one christening info: that of Maria de los Dolores Femat.

Denise Fastrup
Hi Bernardo
I can see there are several potential children of Maria Urbana Lira and Raphael Romo
in family search, although you only mention three children.
Ma.Romualda
Ma.Eulogia
Jose Ydelfonso
Ma. Ambrosia
Ma. Felipe
Jose Fruto
Rafael de Jesus
Here is the link to the search results:
https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenna…
I can see in my notes that Romualda was noted as mestiza, and Ambrosia as India. When I first saw this infomation, I had dismissed any close link to the Romos I was looking for, who are noted as Spanish, but since then I have come across an article that discussed the switching of ethnic identity between Spanish and Indian (of the same person!).
The truth is, Manual Romo + wife who are my ancestors were padrinos for a child of Raphael and Urbana, and Raphael and Urbana were padrinos in return. Someday I hope to have it all straightened out!

Denise
Romo and Lira
Denise Fastrup
Hello Bernando
I have uploaded some information into my files from Ancestry.com on Manuel Romo which shows that Maria Hurvana Lira was godparent for one of his children. This is the Manuel who I think has Raphael Prudencio Romo and Maria Rafaela Aguilar as parents. The information was compiled by Ernie Alderete with a few of my own notes added. If you have problems seeing the file, let me know.
Regards,
Denise Fastrup
Thank you
Armando,
Thank you very much for your information, it clears up a doubt I had about the double Nicolas Romos.
Gloria,
Thank you also for your info, I'll add it to my database.

I'm working on a spreadsheet with info on the various documents I have saved. It is going to take some time since I have to go back and look for the links to the images. I concur with Armando, almost all the references to Victoria Antonia come as Velasco, only one I have found as Velasquez.

AYUDA WITH ROMO AND FEMAT ANCESTORS
Hello Bermardo. I can't help you with what you asked about. However, in
case you find out that Rafael Femate and Rafael Romo are one and the same
person you should know that Capitán Nicolás Romo de Vivar was the son of
Pedro Romo de Vivar and Lorenza Tiscareño de Molina y Ruiz de Esparza.
Maria de Villalobos was the daughter of Salvador de Villalobos Macías
Valadez and Francisca Martín del Campo y López de la Cruz. Many people have
confused this María with Mariana de Villalobos the daughter of Nicolás de
Villalobos Macías Valadez and Teresa Carrillo de Sandi, who doesn't even
have the Martín or Martinez surname, and married Nicolás Romo de Vivar the
son of Diego Romo de Vivar and Luisa de los Ángeles de los Reyes.
