Off the top of my head, I am looking for the parents of my ggggrandmother,
Urzina Hernandez. She was probably born in the 1830's or 1840's as she is the
second wife of Cayetano Borjon who was born in abt 1825. I am related to the
following families from this area: Borjons, Rincons, de Leons, Guererros, Ricos,
Montellanos, Betancourts, Arias',Mesas,Lunas, Garcias, Mergils, Buenos,
Magallanes',Amaros, Gonzalez',Hernandez',Carrillos, Laras, Villavencencios,
Amayas, Santos', Roldans, and last but not least Barrios'. I believe she may
have been born in Sauceda, Zacatecas or San Mateo, Zacatecas. I have checked
LDS listings but have been unsuccessful. Any suggestions on how to continue
when one has hit a brick wall?
Thank you for your interest.

Haciendas of Zacatecas
Hi Christopher, what areas of Zacatecas are we dealing with here?
My family los Perez de Camino owned about 7 haciendas in Zacatecas, mostly
the northern part, according to research Im getting through now. Though
they did not reside there, they mostly lived in Mexico city. This was in
the 1700s and early 1800s for these haciendas. They held lands n Puebla,
Mexico City, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi and Guanajuato.

Haciendas of Zacatecas
I just checked our records and it appears my family did own
El Maguey, one of the many haciendas owned in Zacatecas.
I believe we then sold it to los Sanchez de Tagle, close relatives
of ours. I never got to know how they acquired all this land but
I figure the marriages were key. Manuel Silvestre PErez de Camino,
was Governor of Nueva Vizcaya, he had land in Northern MExico,
Puebla, Guanajuato and Mexico City, Zacatecas
Chihuahua, other parts, he married Josepha de Arguelles y Miranda
sole heir to the mayorazgo of her father Juan de Arguelles he held
many lands in Queretaro, San Luis Potosi some in Mexico City. He had married
Antonia Sanchez de Tagle who was given land for her dowry and had also
purchased and inherited some land when her parents died, Marqueses
de Altamira. Also Manuel Silvestre Perez de Camino was given many mercedes
by the king and viceroy for his service. He was later given land in Puebla
he later purchased several haciendas in Jalisco. He owned an extensive hacienda
de Cienega, not to be confused with our relatves' Cienega de MAta of the Rincon
Gallardo family.

Perez del Camino
Daniel
Thanks for sending that Saldivar report. I will let you know what I find, once I get in touch with my aunt.
As for Camino or Perez del Camino, how are these the same? Where/when did they drop the Perez part of del Camino if they are the same families?
We know they didn't own La Hacienda de La Luz and surrounding Haciendas right? One of my aunts still have "escrituras" where it says the original owner of her home was (wich is one part of La Hacienda when they split it up) Manuel Escobedo. This was confirmed by the current owner(owns La Casa Grande part)
If recall correctly, I think he said they sold it to "Diaz de Leon" family in the early 1900's. A few years back one of their descendants came down to see if he could purchase the whole Hacienda or at least "La Casa Grande"...obviously they refused.
The family there now bought the whole Hacienda after the Diaz de Leon had to leave for almost nothing, but made sure their most important people had a place to stay. My Great Grandparents (Maternal/Paternal) Manuel Camino de Soto (Capataz/Carpenter)and Romulo Renteria Garcia (Capataz)were too loyal to them that they refused to accept any part of the Hacienda. In a way they got forced to accept because the Hacendado had to sell or give up the Hacienda, and basically told them to take advantage or the locals were. I'm assuming it was in The Revolution years. My great grandfather Manuel Camino de Soto already had a home in Tabasco, so he didn't care much if he stayed or not.
Have you researched the Escobedo and the Diaz de Leon families and their ties to these Haciendas? I would love to be linked to Caminos that owned the 7 Haciendas don't get me wrong, but let's find that link so we can all benefit from bragging about it...LOL!
Thanks,
Victor Renteria
Perez del Camino
Yes! They are the same, Perez de Camino and Camino, apprarently the history of the family is
very interesting. I can send the stuff I have on them. But we come from Manuel Silvestre Perez
de Camino who married into the House of Altamira. These early Caminos didnt really have a
"home", per se they did live in Mexico City in the 1700s but they had haciendas everywhere.
Their estates ranged from Queretaro, Mexico, Puebla, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Zacatecas,
Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon. Several books, articles and reports have been published on
don Manuel Silvestre, its funny Manuel is totally a family name that repeats almost every generation.
Im surprised no one has really wrote an extensive book on the mayorazgo of the Caminos, I know
this topic always sparks the Rincon Gallardo and their massive estate but the Camino also had a huge one.
He was a caballero de la Orden de Santiago, Governor of la Nueva Vizcaya, Royal Tresurer of New Spain,
he did had a coat of arms and did have a "probanza de nobleza" I have copies of all this stuff that I can
send. We need to meet one day and just sit down there is so much info. I havent really tallied the number
of haciendas, estancias, puestos etc they owned I so far have reasearched the "big" 7 ones that includes
the El Maguey in Zacatecas, someone in the group asked about it. It was given to the Caminos by real decrato.
I have a copy of that too.
Yup, we did not own La Luz, but as you said we did start purchasing parcels of lands, I know my
great grandparents and his father Celso Camino,Manuel's brother bought some, and also my great
grandma and her parents bought lots too. Her father Eugenio Camino de Soto, Celso and Manuel's
brother, (I am Camino twice, your like three
times I assume) worked in the mining operations and was a owner of something in Guadalajara,
he did strike plata and brought back some money, I assume this is how he bought the land in La Luz,
since it was around the same time. I am a descendant of the Diaz de Leon family, many of us on Ranchos
are, they were like many influential in Aguascalientes and Pinos, they eventually spilled into southern
Zacatecas and Jalisco. Thats funny you mentioned Tabasco, my Celso and Eugenio also had homes in
Tabasco, I wonder if it was a vacation home? Because otherwise why would they have all these homes?
my great grandma's parents had a house in Guadalajara, Tabasco and of course in La Luz.

I think that is one other thing you promised to send about the Camino history. Please send it as soon as you can. I've seen alot of Perez del Camino in my searches than just Camino...can you also send me where we dropped off Perez?
What are the Diaz de Leon linked to all of Ranchos? Through the Garcias?
I don't know how many times I'm a Camino, but my parents are both Caminos how can I tell? I'm still new to this Daniel...lol.
Victor Renteria
Perez del Camino
Oh thats right we also connect on our Garcia de Leon sides they our Garcia descended from the Diaz de Leon, several times.
Perez, not all dropped it but members of the family started to drop it around the time of the independence. Some
used interchangeably Perez de Camino, Camino, Perez Camino, there were other Caminos, not sure if related but
there were Rodriguez Camino and Gonzalez Camino in the 1700s so who knows maybe down the line. Those names
were compounded so. Hmmm...I dont have to much time to gather all the Camino stuff, Id have to do piece by piece
at a time, even im still gathering stuff together. So I cant make promises as to the date Id send EVERYTHING in copy.
I think your Camino three times and your kids are like Camino 5 times, ha ha.

I have found that a lot of the tesoreros were conversos or descendent of conversos. Do you have any info on whether the perez del camino were descendents of conversos?
I have found other members of my family that were in the order of Santiago that had a great grandparent that was of Jewish origin (Ha Levi family)so that so you called de familias Cristianos viejos and be 1-8 jewish.

Perez del Camino
I have only gone back to about 1475 with the conquistadores on my direct line so I
would not know. They did have two sets of coat of arms. They came from Cantabria
and Asturias. I actually believe they are of italian descent prior to coming to spain
at least thats what my research is pointing towards. don Manuel Silvestre en his probanza
de nobleza list up to four generations of his family tree he was born 1697 so it took me
back to 1600 which was of big help. He was peninsular and became the governor of nueva vizacaya
in 1739. So these guys were constantly moving because of his jobs and haciendas. His gradkids
(my line) eventually settled near Pinos and Fresnillo eventuALLY MAKING THEIR WAY TO
aGUASCALIENTES.
