To Whom It May Concern--
Without places and dates, it is hard to tell whom we are talking about. I looked at my old files and this is what I came up with:
Christobal HERNANDEZ GAMINO born about 1631 in Ayo el Chico, Jalisco, Mexico. Married 23 Feb 1653 in Leon, Guanjuato, Mexico to Maria RUIZ de VELASCO, daughter of Pedro RUIZ de VELASCO and Anna NUNEZ BOJORQUEZ.
My old notes on Christobal...! Birth from Steven HERNANDEZ Aug 28, 1999.
Marriage from Steven HERNANDEZ Aug 28, 1999.
Cristobal HERNANDEZ Gamiño was the principal patriarch of the HERNANDEZ
family in the towns of Ayo el Chico and Arandas. SH
He was dead pre Apr 1721 when son Joseph and daughter-in-law, Mariana
VALDIVIA were padrinos. His wife Ma. de BELASCO was also listed
as dead.
New information from Lillian WOLD on June 25, 2001 gave birth as about
1628 in Leon, Guanajuato.
...........................
Parents for Christobal were Domingo HERNANDEZ GAMINO born about 1603 in Extremadura, Spain and married to Juana GOMEZ de ESPEJO, daughter of Garci BRAVO de LAGUNAS and Juana GOMEZ de ESPEJO.
My old notes on Domingo...!
! Birth from Steven HERNANDEZ Aug 28, 1999.
It is not known exactly when he arrived in the New World. He was already here about 1627 when around that year he wed Juana GOMEZ de Espejo, daughter of Garcí BRAVO de Lagunas and Juana GOMEZ de Espejo. They had 17 children. SH
The surname of HERNANDEZ, during colonial times was known as HERNANDEZ GAMIÑO. HERNANDEZ GAMIÑO was a compounded name, two names in one, typical of the majority of the Spanish last names of the era. The HERNANDEZ GAMIÑO family was and still is one of the most extended families in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, especially in Arandas and Ayo el Chico where they multiplied prolifically. The HERNANDEZ GAMIÑOS were the main founders of the new town of Arandas, originally called Santa Maria de Guadalupe de los Arandas, in the 1760's. They also spread into parts of Guanajuato and Michoacan. All of the HERNANDEZ GAMIÑOS descend from Domingo HERNANDES GAMIÑO, the first Spanish settler of this last name in the Los Altos region and patriarch of this vast family. SH
During the time of Jose Maria HERNANDEZ GAMIÑO (b. 30 Jun 1796) the compound name of HERNANDEZ GAMIÑO was reduced to HERNANDEZ. Thus he was simply known as Jose Maria HERNANDEZ.
...........................
I show the parents of Domingo as being Juan HERNANDEZ and Anna VELASQUEZ.
My old notes on Juan...!
! Name from Steven HERNANDEZ Aug 28, 1999.
Juan HERNANDEZ, "el Escribano (the Scribe)" was born around 1576 in the province of Extremadura in Spain. He married Anna VELASQUEZ sometime around 1599. There is no record or knowledge of other children other than Domingo HERNANDEZ Gamiño. SH
...........................
I have not updated this family for many years. I may be in error on some of the things stated here. I welcome comment.
Sincerely,
Patricia Burton
