Hi, all:
I had received an LDS microfilm No. 238073 of the Jesus Parish Records in
Guadalajara, Jalisco for 1876-1883. I had ordered it to look for the
baptism record for my great-grandmother Francisca Cabral, because in her
marriage record it said that she had lived in the Jesus Parish until she was
one year old. However, her baptism record was not on this particular film.
Thankfully, I went ahead and searched through the entire film, just in
case, though I kept telling myself it was probably a waste of time. Lo and
behold, I found someone I had no idea would be in this record from my Robles
family line. The record is as follows:
Jose Emigdio baptized at Iglesia Parroquial de Jesus, Guadalajara March 12,
1879; born March 11, 1879; legitimate son of Magdaleno Cortes and Jesus
Robles. Paternal grandparents: Antonio Cortes and Caciana Padilla.
Maternal grandparents: Emigdio Robles and Manuela Rivera. Padrinos: Jose
Maria Robles and Manuela Rivera.
Emigdio Robles and Manuela Rivera are my ggg-grandparents, not on the Cabral
side of the family, but the Martin del Campo side. My mother had told
me Emigdio and Manuela had a daughter named Jesus, but this is the first
record I have found of her, so I was very happy about that, plus learning
about whom she married, etc. Jesus would be my gg-grandmother's (Rita's)
sister. I also found another record with the name Catarina Rivera, who
might be Rita's cousin, so this film turned out to be quite helpful for
these reasons and because it appears the Riveras and Robles were well
represented in that parish.

Corrine,
How exciting to make this unexpected discovery. This is what makes Genealogy so addicting, when you make that discovery that opens up so many doors.
That is also why we should do our own research and if needed back it up or verify through other people's work, studies books etc. There's nothing like having the document in hand.
I wish you continued success.

Hi,
I found a second record in the same LDS microfilm of the same family in my
Robles family line. Film No. 238073 of the Jesus Parish Records, Baptisms
1876-1883 in Guadalajara:
Jose Hermenegildo born on April 13, 1883, baptized on April 18, 1883;
legitimate son of Magdaleno Cortes and Jesus Robles; paternal grandparents:
Antonio Cortes and Caciana Padilla; maternal grandparents: Emigdio Robles
and Manuela Rivera.
This is several years later than the previous child's baptism. This
particular film is of the baptisms for the legitimate children in the
parish. I was wondering if perhaps my great-grandmother's baptism was not
in this, because she was not a legitimate child. I don't know if she was or
not, but I am wondering where the records are for the illegitimate
children? Did they get baptized?
This is terrible. I was raised Catholic and cannot remember so many details
of the church and being a Catholic. My mother-in-law says, "Once a
Catholic, always a Catholic."

Hello Corrine! I have worked with Guadalajara records and have found sometimes hard.
If your grandmother was ilegitimate youd have to use these films for the JEsus PArish,
natural means ilegitimate children. There are two Jesus Parishes, the northern and southern one.

Some of the films overlap but its worth looking at both list for the years your looking for.
Keep in mind that there about a total of about 8 churches or parishes in Guadalajara at the time here is a list of the parishes. These are the parishes for your time period.
There are other but were found in the 1900's. PArt of my family is from Guadalajara.

Daniel:
Thanks! This is great! I have been a bit frustrated with just trying to understand the layout and recordkeeping, both civil and parish, in Guadalajara. This helps a lot.
