Yes, it is good to hear your position on this, Joseph. I have been in other
forums for other groups and, one of my own postings I had no idea was
controversial, drew a very harsh attack from someone else in the group,
which ultimately led to my dropping out (related to birdwatching in this
particular forum). The moderator of that group took the position similarly,
that it was okay to be controversial and have discussions, but not to attack
others or be mean-spirited. Nevertheless, I dropped out, because of
elitists in the group continually criticizing my amateur-level experience on
the topic.
What I have learned from these forums for serious folks, whether
birdwatching or genealogy, is that there must not only be room for the
beginner to learn from the more experienced, without being put-down for
their inexperience, but there must also be room for healthy discussion.
For, how else do we all learn and move forward in our searching, but by
connecting to one another, helping one another along, as is the purpose of
this group. When I connect with all of you in Nuestros Ranchos, I am
bringing you all into my home. I may be sitting here at the computer,
hundreds of miles away from many of you, clicking the Send button when I've
finished typing my message. But, the spirit of our shared journey in
uncovering and learning of our individual family histories, is not so much
to take pride in how different we are from one another, but more so to be
comforted by how alike we truly are.

Moderator's Position
Joseph Puentes: A simple "thank you" does not seem sufficient to you for orchestrating this research site, and maintaining its integrity. Having the pleasure of meeting you, I can say that you are such a magnificent person.
Through your creation of Nuestros Ranchos, many of us have found lost cousins, and developed some wonderful friendships.
You are an astonishing humanitarian.
Sincerely,
Helyn

To The Ranchos Group--
It is nice when we can share our talents.
One of the people who is in the Ranchos group, spoke
to me recently about trying to get information on her
relative born in Portesuelo, Jalisco. My husband and
I drove there this morning and were able to get a
modern copy of a birth certificate (70 pesos) that she
need for the years between 1880-1882. It was a simple
process and took 10 minutes or less. All I did was
give the approximate years and the names of the child
and parents. When I see my Rancho´s friend, I am sure
she is going to be so happy.
I wish the same for the rest of you, as you do your
research and reach out to others.
Sincerely,

Patricia!
I am so excited!! You did what my mother and grandmother couldn't do,
and that was to find the birth record of my great-grandmother, Guadalupe
Vaca Velasquez from Portezuelo, Jalisco. That is totally incredible and
I can't wait to get home from visiting my Son Dave in Northern
California and come and find you (around August 3 to 7). THANK YOU,
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Thank you Joseph
I would like to add a comment and just say "Thank You Joseph" for your website. I have been a genealogist for the past 17 years and have met so many people via the internet who have become distant cousins, just as in this group. In fact I did meet a close cousin who I had gone to high school with from this group.
As a hispanic and a genealogist I think we should all be proud of the work we are doing. It gives us a sense of what/who we are, whether we are old timers at research or newbies...I for one am always learning something new....and I enjoy sharing my new-found knowledge with others. I have many family members who are not interested in my work, and I'm fine with that...but I know that what I do, I am leaving a legacy for future generations. And maybe one day they will say, "Thank you for the hard work"
Again, Thank you Joseph
